Derelict boat fire at Island Harbour

Crews from Newport and Ryde were called to a blaze in old paddle steamer, Ryde Queen, at Island Harbour in Newport just before 13:30 on Saturday 24 May. Three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform attended to tackle the fire in the dilapidated boat. Breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and ultra high-pressure lances were used to bring the fire under control, and the stop message was issued shortly after 15:30.

The incident will soon be scaled back to two fire engines. Crews from Newport and Ryde are currently damping down to prevent hotspots.
