How to contact usThe role of a Firefighter is varied and fighting fires is only one part. Firefighters deal with many other incidents including road traffic collisions, chemical accidents, water rescue, and animal rescues.
And it doesn’t just stop there our crews also carry out work within the local community educating on fire prevention and safety to stop fires happening in the first place.
Wholetime firefighters work full-time and are permanently based at one of our fire stations. From there, they are mobilised to respond to a wide range of emergencies while also participating in fire prevention initiatives and community-focused activities.
They usually work in a pattern of two-day shifts, then two-night shifts, followed by four days off. However, other shift patterns also exist.
A career in the fire service offers numerous pathways for growth. Firefighters have opportunities to specialise in areas such as technical rescue, as well as progress into leadership roles within the service.
We welcome applications from anyone who meets the criteria and are keen to hear from people who want to make a difference in their community and be a part of our service.
On-call firefighters are an essential part of our emergency service. This is a paid position with on-call hours based around your availability, so it can fit around any existing jobs and commitments. As an on-call firefighter, you could be called out two or three times a week, for a few hours at a time. You must also be able to attend a weekly drill night training session.
Full training is provided therefore previous experience is not required. However, you must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely within four minutes when on call and you must have a certain level of physical fitness due to the demands of the role.
