Plans to construct a new fire station building at East Cowes have been approved by the local authority.

Our Estates team worked closely with the Isle of Wight Council to ensure the development doesn’t impact upon resident boundaries and the surrounding trees are protected.

The plans will not only see a new building for East Cowes’ on-call firefighters to respond to incidents from, but also a purpose-built fleet maintenance facility for all of the island’s fire service vehicles, and a dedicated decontamination area to help improve the safety of crews.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Authority provided their approval last year before initial plans were drawn up with the Estates department working with HIWFRS Director of Corporate Services, Matt Robertson said:

“We are pleased to see that our plans for a new fire station building have been approved, and we can now get to work with the next stage of the development.

“The fire authority agreed our initial proposals to rebuild the site with additional fleet maintenance and decontamination facilities, last year.

“Since then, our Estates team have worked closely with our partners in the Isle of Wight Council to finalise those plans, ensuring all parties, including residents were happy.”

Work is expected to commence later this year.
