Large straw pile involved in blaze at Petersfield farm

Firefighters worked in the heat to extinguish a fire involving a large straw pile at a farm in Petersfield yesterday.
Crews from Alton, Liphook and Havant were called at midday and supported by specialist water carrier and off-road vehicles from Bordon, Fareham and Alresford.
They worked to surround the fire to prevent it spreading to a nearby field.
The 80-tonne pile was broken down and spread-out using farm machinery to allow firefighters to extinguish and dampen down the contents using jets and hose reels.
The incident was handed over to the onsite responsible person before crews left the scene once the stop message was received at 15:32.
In this hot weather fires can take hold and spread very quickly, so make sure you know what to do if you see a fire in the countryside this weekend.
