FAQ

Do you fit smoke alarms?

Whilst we’d like to offer visits to all Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents, unfortunately we aren’t able to.

Instead, we focus our visits on the most vulnerable people in our community.

To make a referral or see if you qualify for a visit, please fill out our Safe and Well referral form.

I did not qualify for a Safe and Well Visit, what can I do?

If you or the occupier are not eligible for a Safe and Well Visit (home safety visit), please complete the free Home Fire Safety Check. You’ll be left with personalised advice you can download and adopt.

Do HIWFRS provide Fire Warden or Fire Risk Assessment training?

Unfortunately, we do not offer this service, we would recommend seeking out a private company that offers this training.

For Fire Warden training we would suggest considering 3sFire.

We do offer Free Fire Safety Workshops.

Do you offer work experience?

We offer local school and college students work placements of up to 5 days. We have a limited number of spaces and can only accept young people who have applied through the Children and Young People Team.

If you are interested in applying for a placement, please complete the application form.

Do you accept car seats, motorcycle helmets or vehicles?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept donations of car seats or motorcycle helmets but thank you for thinking of us.

For vehicles, we cannot accept donations via the public; however, we do accept them via a company called Silverlake. If you were to scrap with them, you can request it is donated to the fire service.

Does HIWFRS fill up swimming pools?

Unfortunately, this is not a service we can provide.

Do you send out memorabilia?

Unfortunately, we do not send out memorabilia (e.g. patches, old fire hoses), and we do not gift or loan any firefighting kit or equipment to members of the public or former members of staff.

Can I hire a Fire engine?

Unfortunately, due to the service vehicles being operational, we are unable to provide them for events like Proms or Birthday parties.

There are many private operators with fire engines that you can hire for these types of events.

Do you take Fire Extinguishers, how do I dispose of them?

We do not take fire extinguishers for training purposes.

To safely dispose of a fire extinguisher, we recommend contacting your local recycling center and/or the manufacturer for advice on how to dispose of them safely.
