Candle fire sparks call-out for Isle of Wight crews
Ryde and Newport crews were called to a lounge fire at a property on Chestnut Close in Binstead shortly before 6pm yesterday evening.
Smoke and flames were issuing when firefighters arrived, with the occupants safely out of the property.
The ground-floor fire caused by a candle was extinguished by firefighters in breathing apparatus sets using hose reels and jets before ventilation fans were used to clear smoke.
Crews conducted home fire safety visits before the stop message came in at 18:32.
Candles are one the 5 C’s we are urging people to be careful with this winter. Keep lit candles away from curtains and bedding and be sure to blow out when you leave the room. Find out more about how to safely use candles here.
