Candle fire in Winchester property fire stopped by firefighters

A candle sparked a blaze at a property on Rowlings Road in Winchester at 19:47 this evening.

The fire within a third floor flat was extinguished by firefighters in breathing apparatus using hose reels and jets before the property was ventilated.

Crews from Winchester, Sutton Scotney, Eastleigh and Redbridge were on the scene along with the aerial ladder from St Mary’s.

Firefighters performed Immediate Emergency Care on two casualties who were passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.

After damping down firefighters checked adjoining properties for potential fire spread and then conducted a number of community fire safety visits
