Waste lorry blaze on A31 tackled by Hampshire and Dorset crews

Firefighters tackled a lorry fire on the A31 near Poulner.

Crews from both HIWFRS and DWFRS were alerted to the blaze shortly after 9am this morning, with more than 20 emergency calls made reporting the incident.

The trailer unit, carrying household waste, was well alight on the eastbound carriageway when firefighters first arrived on scene.

Specialist aerial and water carrier vehicles were then called to support.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters have been using hose reels to extinguish the fire, before removing the contents of the vehicle in order to dampen down.

The incident was handed over to various different agencies, with HIWFRS leaving the scene following the stop message at 14:01.
