Scrap yard blaze in Northam, Southampton
We were alerted to smoke and flames issuing from a commercial property on Millbank Street in Southampton just before 10:30pm this evening. Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Redbridge, Eastleigh, Portchester, Fareham, Alton and Basingstoke are working to tackled the blaze. The stop message was issued just before 3am, and a reinspection of the site was carried out at 7am. There were no casualties.

2:10am – 12 September
We will shortly be scaling down our presence onsite as the fire has been brought under control. Two fire engines will remain on scene for the time being to continue damping down and dealing with any hotspots.
1:30am – 12 September
There are still 8 fire engines and 2 aerial ladder platforms on scene as we work to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and water jets on the the fire.
12:30am – 12 September
Firefighters are using plant machinery to turn over and dampen scrap waste. The wind is blowing in an easterly direction, residents are advised to close windows and doors due to smoke from the fire.
11:50pm – 11 September
Seven fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms are on scene. Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Redbridge, Eastleigh, Portchester, Fareham, Alton and Basingstoke are working to tackle the blaze.
