Multiple crews attend house fire in Bitterne, Southampton

At 15:55 on Saturday 10 August, crews were called to a fire at an end-of-terrace house in Bitterne. The fire in the loft space of the property caused a to collapse, and also spread to two adjoining properties. All residents were evacuated safely, and there are no known injuries.

The fire was extinguished by multiple crews using breathing apparatus, jets and an aerial ladder platform, and the stop message was issued at 20:09 on Saturday 10 August.

Water jets are being sprayed at a house which has smoke pouring from the roof area.

It has been confirmed that the fire is now out. Fire safety advice will be provided to residents in the local area over the weekend.

20:00 – 10 August
We have scaled back the number of fire engines and fire fighters on-site whilst we work on damping down the property and monitoring for hotspots.

18:12 – 10 August
We have made significant process in controlling the fire, which has caused a roof collapse to one property. Residents are still advised to avoid the area due to ongoing road closures.

We currently have 8 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform on scene.

Firefighters from Eastleigh, Hardley, Hightown, St Mary’s and Wickham are using breathing apparatus, main jets, hose reel jets and ultra high-pressure lances to tackle the blaze and prevent fire spread.

Bitterne Road West is closed between Northam Bridge and Bullar Road / Athlestan Road. Please avoid the area to allow emergency services access. We anticipate the road will be closed for some time.

Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed if smoke is affecting their property.
