A large field of crops destroyed in Medstead blaze
More than 15 emergency calls reported the blaze which broke out shortly before midday yesterday.
Firefighters from Winchester, Eastleigh, Alton, Bordon, St Mary’s and Surrey FRS were alerted to the incident off of Rookwood Lane in Medstead.
Specialist off-road support vehicles were also called to the scene coming from Fleet and Rushmoor.
The blaze which involved approximately 36 hectares of standing crop, was quickly surrounded and extinguished.
The incident was then scaled down with the remaining firefighters damping down the scene.

- Do not discard cigarettes in the countryside; dispose of smoking materials properly and make sure they are completely extinguished
- Clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire
- Only light fires or barbecues in designated areas using the facilities provided – and remember, barbecues are not allowed in any part of the New Forest National Park
- Don’t leave campfires or barbecues unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them
- Talk to young people about the dangers of playing with and lighting fires
