On-call firefighters from East Hampshire tackle workshop blaze
Around 25 firefighters were called to a well-alight wooden outhouse used as a carpenter’s workshop in Petersfield last night (14 Dec).
The on-call crews from Horndean, Alton, Liphook and Portchester responded to their pagers and were quickly en route to the blaze on Warren Lane at 19:45 yesterday evening.
The specialist water carrier vehicle from Bordon was requested shortly after the first crews arrived on scene, as they began to fight the fire.
The building was fully engulfed in flames as crews worked to prevent the fire spreading to other nearby buildings and extinguish the blaze.
Liaising with the Environment Agency to ensure the local area was protected, crews used two hose reels and two jets to stop the fire, as firefighters wore a total of 14 sets of breathing apparatus.
Crews dampened down the scene and made use of ventilation fans to clear smoke before returning to station at 22:22.
One fire crew returned to the scene at around 5am this morning to conduct a reinspection and ensure there were no further hotspots.
