Chinese takeaway kitchen blaze tackled by Southampton crews

Firefighters from across Southampton were called to a fire within a takeaway restaurant on High Road in Swaythling.

At 12:10 this afternoon HIWFRS crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Eastleigh, Redbridge, Winchester were mobilised and upon arrival found flames issuing from the two-storey building.

The fire involving ducting inside the ground-floor kitchen was extinguished with two jets and two hose reels, with ventilation fans in operation to clear smoke and six sets of breathing apparatus worn by firefighters.

The incident was scaled down with three crews remaining on scene to conduct community safety activity before returning to stations at 14:02.
