More than 50 emergency calls received by HIWFRS Control Room following Isle of Wight flash-flooding
The HIWFRS Control Room received more than fifty 999 yesterday afternoon to do with flooding across the Isle of Wight alone.
Our partners within the Environment Agency and Isle of Wight Council implemented their well-tested flood response plans.
Fortunately we weren’t required to respond to any incidents where lives were at risk.
Ryde crews were called to assist a man from a basement flat and isolate the electrics which had been affected the water.
Newport and Ryde were required to pump water out of a number of properties on Cemetry Road in Binstead.
During busy times where resources are not deployed, Control Room operators will always offer advice on dealing with flooding and provide contact details for where callers can get further help, for example Floodline.
