M27 lanes closed due to lorry fire

Crews were called to the M27 westbound, near the M271 junction, following a large vehicle fire at 14:20.

Firefighters from Eastleigh and St Mary’s attended following multiple 999 calls from passing motorists.

A waste lorry carrying mattresses was on the hard shoulder. Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets and ladders to put the fire out. Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for hotspots.

The stop message was received at 15:16 and the incident was handed over to the Highways Agency.
