Firefighters worked alongside other emergency service partners after a man got stuck in the mud.
Crews from Totton, Redbridge and Fareham were called to Test Lane, Southampton, at 02:53 and searched the riverbank.
One man was rescued by the Coastguard and handed into the care of paramedics.
