Large woodland fire tackled by firefighters in North Baddesley

A large woodland fire in North Baddesley was tackled by firefighters yesterday evening.

At around half four, fire engines, water carriers and off-road vehicles were alerted to the scene off of Botley Road.

There was a significant amount of smoke and a large number of emergency vehicles, so the public were asked to avoid the area.

The fire affected an area approximately 1,000m by 500m in size, and was extinguished before crews dampened down the scene.

Most vehicles returned to station overnight, with relief firefighters, who took over from those first on the scene, monitoring the area and dealing with hotspots.

At around nine o’clock this morning, firefighters left the scene, with one crew scheduled to attend later today to conduct a reinspection of the area.
