Firefighters respond to derelict building fire in Liss
Incident update – 10pm:
The fire is now out and a stop message was received at 21:40. Firefighters will continue to revisit the scene throughout the night to carry out further inspections and ensure there are no remaining hotspots.
The road closure on London Road has now been lifted. However, a cordon will remain in place and the site will continue to be guarded due to concerns over the building’s structural stability.
Incident update – 9am:
The incident has been scaled down and crews are returning to their stations. Two fire appliances will remain on the scene from 09:00.
The building was completely destroyed by fire and no injuries have been reported. The incident has been referred to the police.
Members of the public are urged to avoid the area while emergency services continue to work at the scene. Local road closures also remain in place and will be lifted when it is safe to do so.
Initial incident details:
Overnight, crews from Odiham, Basingstoke, Fareham, Fleet, Bordon, Alton, Rushmoor, Grayshott, Havant, Liphook, Cosham, Southsea and Portchester, as well as an Aerial Ladder Platform and an Incident Command Unit, were alerted to a fire at a derelict care home on London Road, Liss.
The first, second and third floors, as well as the roof of the building, became involved in the blaze. The building later collapsed, resulting in falling debris and embers.
Around 60 firefighters remain at the incident, tackling the fire using multiple hose reel jets and main jets. The initial call came in at 23:15 Tuesday night.
