Large gorse fire extinguished by Tadley and Basingstoke crews
Tadley firefighters were mobilised at 17:39 last night to a large gorse fire on Wigmore Road in Tadley.
Due to the high volume of calls into the HIWFRS Control Room and reports of a large smoke plume, a second appliance from Basingstoke was sent.
Approximately one hectare of gorse and tree scrub were involved in the blaze which was extinguished using hose reel jets and beaters, before crews dampened down.
Whilst damping down crews discovered a birds nest full of young chicks which sadly died in the blaze.
Firefighters handed the incident over to police colleagues before leaving the scene at 19:34.
