Gorse Fire on Browndown Common, Gosport
Firefighters were called to Browndown Common in Gosport just before 7pm on Saturday 13 April, after multiple 999 calls reported large plumes of smoke drifting across the area.
On arrival, crews discovered approximately 180 by 60 metres of gorse alight. One measuring approximately 80 by 30 metres and the other around 100 by 30 metres. The fire later spread to cover a total area of roughly 180 by 60 metres.
Using a combination of three hose reel jets, two main jets, two off-road vehicles, four beaters, crews worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control. It was fully extinguished by 22:15.
A reinspection carried out by a crew from Gosport the following morning confirmed the area was safe, with no remaining hotspots detected.

A crew from Gosport returned to the scene this morning to carry out a reinspection, confirming that no hotspots were identified.

The gorse fire, covering an area of approximately 180 by 60 metres, has now been fully extinguished.
Firefighters used three hose reel jets, two main jets, two off-road vehicles, and four beaters to bring the blaze under control.

Crews have identified two separate areas of gorse alight on the common. The first fire measures approximately 80 by 30 metres, and the second around 100 by 30 metres.
Firefighters are currently using two hose reel jets, two main jets, four beaters, and a Land Rover to tackle the flames. The fire is now surrounded, and crews are working tirelessly to prevent any further spread.

The fire produced two large plumes of smoke, prompting multiple 999 calls shortly before 7pm.
Crews from Gosport, Fareham, Cosham, Eastleigh and Hightown are on scene using hose reels and beaters to bring the flames under control.
Local residents have been advised to avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles clear access.
