Domestic Fire Wherwell
Firefighters have now completed final checks at the scene of a significant domestic fire on Mill Lane, Wherwell. No hotspots were identified during the last inspection at 07:30 on Monday 14 April, and the incident is now fully closed.
Crews were first called to the scene at approximately 4:45pm on Saturday 12 April, with around 50 firefighters from across the county responding. At the height of the fire, crews used multiple jets, hose reels, and an aerial ladder platform to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby thatched properties.
Overnight and into Sunday morning, the response was scaled down, with crews remaining on site to damp down and monitor for hotspots. A number of follow-up inspections were carried out, with the final reinspection confirming the area is now safe.
In addition to firefighting efforts, teams also carried out community safety work in the local area, including several home fire safety visits.

Crews have completed final checks of the scene and no hotspots have been identified.
UPDATE 19:30 (13 APR)
A crew from Andover returned to the scene this evening to carry out a reinspection. During their checks, they discovered some signs of smouldering and proceeded to damp down the area. As a precaution, a crew will return tomorrow to conduct a further inspection.

Crews spent the morning damping down and checking for hotspots, while also carrying out community safety work in the local area. A number of home fire safety visits were conducted at nearby properties.

Firefighters have now left the scene but will return later this afternoon to carry out a secondary inspection of the site.

We are scaling down our response to two fire engines and one Aerial Ladder Platform. We will remain onsite throughout the night and tomorrow morning to damping down and deal with hotspots.

Around 50 firefighters are currently on scene at a domestic fire on Mill Lane, Wherwell. Crews from Winchester, Andover, Eastleigh, Overton, Basingstoke, Alton, Rushmoor, Fleet, and SHQ were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:45pm this evening.
Firefighters have been using multiple jets, hose reels, and an aerial platform ladder to tackle the blaze. While the fire is now under control, crews remain on site to dampen down the area and protect nearby thatched properties from potential spread.
There may be continued local power outages due to fire-damaged electrical cables.
