Firefighters rescue horse from ditch in Carisbrooke

Isle of Wight crews were called this morning to free a horse from a ditch in a field near to Carisbrooke Castle.

Fire engines from Newport and Ryde, including the specialist animal rescue vehicle, were mobilised at 11:26.

Working alongside a local vet, crews used animal rescue equipment to perform the extrication after the 23-year-old mare had been sedated.

The 15 hand animal was successfully extricated and left in the care of the vet and owner, back on all four legs.

Firefighters returned to station following the incident stop message at 13:11.
