Firefighters from three different services called to large hay fire

Hampshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire crews tackled a blaze involving around 400 bales of hay on the border of the three counties.

Smoke and flames were issuing as firefighters first arrived in the field on Chalkpit Hill in East Woodhay yesterday (12 Sep) lunchtime.

Specialist water carrier vehicles from Eastleigh and DWFRS were required, along with Land Rover vehicles from Andover.

Police were on the scene to establish the cause of the blaze as crew from Whitchurch and Fleet attended to take over firefighting duties from those who were first on the scene.

Crews worked to create a break in the hay to limit the spread of the fire, as well as using 10,000 litres of water to extinguish the blaze.

The incident was handed over to the landowner at 19:33, who will continue to monitor the controlled burn.
