Braishfield barn blaze tackled by around 35 firefighters

Crews were called just after 1.30 this afternoon (13 Sep) to a fire that had broken out in a barn full of hay in Braishfield.

Firefighters from Romsey, Redbridge, Eastleigh, Hightown and St Mary’s were supported by water carriers at the scene on Common Hill Road.

Around 1,400 bales of hay were involved in the blaze, with a number of nearby cylinders monitored due to their close proximity to the fire.

The incident was scaled down, with one fire engine remaining on the scene to monitor the hay into the evening.

The remaining crew have made an assessment this morning (14 Sep) to hand the incident over to the landowner ahead of HIWFRS leaving the scene. A reinspection will take place later this afternoon, as the remaining hay is allowed to burn in a controlled manner.
