*16:20 (7 March)*

We are scaling down our response to two fire engines and one Aerial Ladder Platform. It is likely we will remain onsite throughout the night damping down and dealing with hotspots. Road closures currently remain in place.

*11:00 (7 March)*

HIWFRS Incident Commander Mark White said:

“Activities have continued over night and this morning we have four fire engines in attendance along with an Aerial Ladder Platform, which is a high reach appliance that is being used as a water tower. We are hoping at some point today we will be able to extinguish the fire completely, however in some areas it is really deep seated and there are areas that are very difficult to reach due to the partially collapsed nature of the building.”

Because of a change in wind direction people who were previously unaffected may now be seeing and smelling smoke, our advice remains that people in affected areas should keep their windows closed.

Road closures remain in place and people are asked to avoid the area if possible.

If you find ash and debris from the Marine Parade fire on your property you are advised to leave it alone.

*17:40 (6 March)*

HIWFRS Incident Commander John Amos said:

“We’ve got more than 100 personnel onsite working extremely hard to tackle a well-developed fire near to St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

“We have been working closely with our partner agencies and Southampton Football Club throughout this incident, with tonight’s scheduled match postponed.

We expect to have a presence on the scene overnight and into tomorrow. We ask that the public avoid the area due to a number of road closures in place, and that local residents keep windows and doors closed because of the large smoke plume.”

*17:10 (6 March) *

There are currently around 100 firefighters in attendance tackling the fire.

This is a significant incident and it is likely there will be a fire presence in the area for a prolonged period of time. Over that time, our presence will scale down as the fire is fully extinguished and the smoke plume dissipates.

Residents in the area affected by the smoke plume are advised to keep doors and windows closed. Some roads local to the incident are closed and people are advised to avoid the area to allow movements of emergency vehicles.
