Crews stop large manure fire in Baughurst

Last week firefighters stopped a blaze involving a large pile of manure at a farm in Baughurst.

Crews from Basingstoke and Tadley were supported by Fleet’s water carrier vehicle on Tuesday evening.

The smouldering muckheap was approximately 150-tonnes in size, and tackled by firefighters using jets.

To prevent the fire spreading, the pile was broken down thanks to the use of onsite farmyard machinery.

Firefighters left the scene at around 8pm, before one crew returned later in the evening to reinspect the manure which remained steaming, and was expected to continue to do so for a few hours more, but no more action from HIWFRS was required.
