Around 30 firefighters called to large grass fire near Portsmouth

HIWFRS vehicles from Cosham, Havant, Fareham, Portchester and Southsea were called to a blaze involving three hectares of standing crops on Pigeon House Lane in Purbrook this afternoon at 15:55.

The electricity board were requested as the fire was initially spreading towards a number of electrical pylons.

Crews used two jets, three hose reel jets and beaters to stop the fire before damping down the scene.

Firefighters left the scene following the stop message at 17:27.
