Hampshire and Berkshire firefighters tackle barn fire near Newbury

HIWFRS crews from Tadley, Sutton Scotney, Basingstoke and Overton were joined by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters to tackle a blaze affecting a number of barns in Wash Water near Newbury.

More than 35 firefighters were on the scene at 2:56 this morning, working to evacuate buildings adjacent to the barns which were full of hay and well alight upon arrival.

A specialist water carrier from Andover was also mobilised to the hamlet on the Hampshire-Berkshire border.

Three pigs were affected by the fire and sadly had to be put down by their owner.

Winchester, Whitchurch and Alton crews were on the scene this morning, taking over firefighting duties from the firefighters who were first on the scene.

The incident was scaled down with only a few crews remaining on the scene to fully extinguish the fire.

The stop message came in at 13:51.
