Thatch fire in Quarley
We were called to a thatched property fire in Quarley shortly after 5pm on Friday 14 March.
The residents had safely evacuated, but the property was fully affected by fire. At the height of the incident, over 50 firefighters were on the scene, with Dorset & Wiltshire crews also in attendance.
We maintained a presence overnight and into Saturday morning to dampen down and check for hotspots. The stop message was issued just before 1pm on Saturday 15 March.

We still have one crew and fire engine on scene. They are using one hose reel jet to dampen down and target hot spots.

Our response has been further scaled back to 2 fire engines. We will be maintaining a presence onsite throughout the night.

Crews from Alton, Andover, Basingstoke, Eastleigh, Fleet, Hardley, Hightown, Romsey and St Mary’s remain in attendance. Main jets and Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) are being used to prevent fire spread.

The fire is now surrounded and the incident is being scaled, with seven fire engines and a number of other support vehicles remaining on the scene.

We are currently tackling a thatched roof fire on Park Lane in Quarley, close to Thruxton. Locals are being advised to avoid the area where possible, as a large number of emergency service vehicles are attending the scene. Over 50 firefighters are on scene tackling the blaze, using Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) to extinguish the flames and prevent further fire spread. All residents have evacuated the property.
