We remain on site monitoring and cooling the affected containers.

Incident Update – 9pm

Firefighters from Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Ventnor, alongside an Aerial Ladder Platform, continue to monitor the scene and cool affected containers. A drone operator is on the scene, helping to identify any hotspots. 

A crew from Eastleigh is also in attendance to provide relief cover.

Incident Update – 4pm

Island firefighters from Ryde, Newport, Ventnor, Shanklin, Sandown, East Cowes and Freshwater remain at the scene, supported by mainland crews from Lymington and Emsworth.

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a fire involving eight metal shipping containers, using multiple main jets, hose reels and an aerial ladder platform to bring the incident under control.

A 200-metre cordon remains in place. Members of the public are urged to avoid the area while emergency services continue to deal with the incident. Local road closures also remain in place and will be lifted when it is safe to do so.

Initial Incident Update

Firefighters are currently responding to a fire at a scrap yard on Smallbrook Lane, Ryde, involving multiple shipping containers.

Crews are using hose reel jets and main jets to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.

A 200-metre cordon has been established around the site. The fire service will contact residents whose properties fall within this area directly.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area while emergency services continue to deal with the incident. Please keep roads clear to allow emergency vehicles access and follow any instructions from emergency personnel.
