Over 1,500 copies of the new Susie the Childminder and the Pandemic children’s book have now been delivered to schools across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and the new book has already received high praise from a number of teachers and schools.
Launched as part of the popular Keeping Safe with Susie the Childminder series, Susie the Childminder and the Pandemic teaches children about the importance of community, building resilience, and staying safe, healthy, and positive during challenging times.
Funded by Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Local Resilience Forum (HIOW LRF), this free, fun yet educational tool was designed to help teachers, parents, and carers to have open discussions with children about how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting us all, now and in the future.
Phillippa Longman, Head Teacher at Hiltingbury Infant School in Eastleigh said:
“I used the new book for my first zoom assembly with the whole school and it was a great way to reflect on children’s experiences and create an open discussion around some of our changes and additional rules in school. The teachers were able to use the Susie book to facilitate some great discussions with their classes too. The great content gets children thinking, reflecting and talking about their own and others experiences throughout the pandemic. “
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Education Manager Judy Rice said:
