Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s (HIWFRS’) Rushmoor Fire Cadets have successfully completed the Surrey Three Peaks challenge.
Accompanied by their parents, Fire Cadet Instructors and Rushmoor firefighters, the team took on the challenge to raise funds for two charities close to their hearts, Dogs for Autism and the Fountain Centre.
On Thursday 30 May, the team started their hike at 9am, taking on the first peak at Holmbury Hill. Then they moved on to tackle Leith Hill, before finishing their challenge at Box Hill at around 4pm. During the challenge the team walked a whopping distance of 28km during their 7 hours of hiking.
The challenge was organised by Rushmoor Crew Manager and Volunteer Lead Fire Cadet Instructor Barry Hodkin. Volunteer Lead Fire Cadet Instructor Marli Holland and volunteers Ian J carpenter and Ellie Hayes also supported the cadets with the challenge.
The team raised a grand total of £1720 for charity.
HIWFRS’ Fire Cadet Lead Alex Hamilton said:
“I am extremely proud of our cadets & instructors for completing this challenge. It was a long day but everyone kept motivating and pushing one another onward. Raising £1720 is an incredible achievement! I also want to thank all the additional support we had from people and to those who donated. And finally, a big thank you to Barry & Marli our Volunteer Fire cadet Lead Instructors at Rushmoor for everything they do!”
Can you spare two evenings per month to make a difference and help our young Fire Cadets achieve their full potential? We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors to help run our fire cadet units in Rushmoor and Southsea.
This is a great opportunity to become a role model and help mentor young people. No previous experience is necessary as full training and uniform will be provided. If you can help, we’d love to hear from you. Email fire.cadets@hantsfire.gov.uk or find out more on our volunteer pages.
