Brian has reached 50 years of operational service as an on-call firefighter. He is one of only a handful of people to reach the milestone nationally.
To mark his achievement family, friends, colleagues and members of the community gathered for a surprise celebration at Bishop’s Waltham Station. Brian arrived at the fire station thinking that he was joining the normal drill night but instead he was welcomed by a round of applause, with crews from Bishop’s Waltham and neighbouring Droxford Fire Station forming a guard of honour for him.
Family members included his son Neil a crew manager at Hightown Fire Station and wife Linda who has been with him every step of the way over his amazing 50 years.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Stew Adamson, presented Brian with his 50-year medal and other gifts. He said:
“It is with great honour and admiration we recognise Firefighter Brian Cole for his exceptional commitment and unwavering dedication to the Service and the community of Bishop’s Waltham as an on–call firefighter during his astounding 50-year career.
“Throughout half a century of service Brian has demonstrated a passion for protecting lives and property. Selflessly putting himself in harm’s way to ensure the safety and wellbeing of others.
“His remarkable career has left an incredibly positive impression on our community. He is a shining example of bravery, resilience, and commitment.
“The impact of Brian’s service cannot be overstated, he truly embodies the spirit of firefighting, our Service values and will no doubt continue to inspire future generations.”
