Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWRFS) is recruiting for people to join its Control Team, answering 999 calls and being that first point of contact for people in an emergency.

HIWFRS aims to make life safer and to provide the best possible service it can to the people of Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

As a Firefighter (Control) you would be the start of the frontline. You would play a vital role in dealing with incidents – determining the scale of response and mobilising the most appropriate vehicles/equipment to tackle fires, animal rescues, chemical spills, road traffic collisions and more.

The ideal Firefighter (Control) will have the following skillset:

  • Attentive to detail with the ability to receive and record information accurately
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to listen, reassure and explain situations clearly
  • Have excellent keyboard skills
  • Will possess emotional resilience and awareness
  • The capacity to use initiative as part of a team and independently
  •  A good knowledge of the geography of Hampshire & Isle of Wight

In addition to a rewarding role and a great team, working for HIWFRS includes benefits such as an excellent pension scheme, the Blue light discount card, generous annual leave allowance and opportunities for learning and development.

The wellbeing of all colleagues is a priority for HIWFRS and as an organisation offers access to free, confidential, and impartial employee support for a variety of issues, including relationships, work, bereavement, financial, legal, stress and medical.

HIWFRS is passionate about making the service an inclusive place to work, with network groups providing peer support and a forum for colleagues to share experiences and ideas, and promote a culture of inclusion within the organisation.

Control is based at HIWFRS Headquarters in Eastleigh and offers free parking and an on- site restaurant. Control is crewed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so you must be able to work days, nights and weekends.
