Kevin Morrison has been volunteering his Friday evenings at Ringwood Fire Station for 26 years and has had a positive influence on hundreds of young people.

Kevin’s long service and retirement was recognised at Ringwood’s pass out parade earlier this month, marking the end of term for cadets.

There to congratulate Kevin on his achievement and years of service, was Deputy Chief Fire Officer Shantha Dickinson. She said:

“The dedication and passion Kevin has shown the Ringwood unit and all the instructors and cadets who have passed through it is nothing short of inspirational.

“Kevin’s selfless commitment over the years has changed and shaped the lives of quite literally hundreds of local Ringwood young people. Many of whom have gone on to pursue careers within the emergency or military services.”

To honour Kevin’s legacy the Service’s new volunteer recognition award has been created in his honour.

Each year, the new ‘Kevin Morrison Fire Cadet Instructor of the Year’ trophy will now be presented to a Fire Cadet Instructor who has embodied the Service values and who through their actions and behaviours, has positively inspired young people in the community.

Children and Young People Delivery Manager Joanna Gregory, who announced the introduction of the new award said:

“Our hope is that this award will represent everything that you have stood for and selflessly given over your 26 years of service, and that the impacts of your passion and dedication will continue to be felt within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Cadets for many more years to come.”

The first ever trophy has been presented to Lead Fire Cadet Instructor Emily Frith for her ‘incredible levels of personal resilience, admirable leadership qualities and calm and caring nature’ at the Gosport Fire Cadet unit.

The Service is currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors to help run their fire cadet units. This is a great opportunity to become a role model and help mentor young people. No previous experience is necessary as full training and uniform will be provided.
