Last weekend six of our fire cadets travelled to South Wales to take part in the 2025 Fire Cadet National Games.

The three-day event brought together fire cadet units from across the UK for a programme of team-based challenges, personal development, and celebration, with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight unit finishing fifth out of 31 teams overall.

The HIWFRS team competed in the Search and Rescue, Trauma, Water Rescue, Team Work, Fire Service Initiative and Technical challenges.

Fire Cadet Manager, Clair Hayward said:

“Our cadets did amazingly well and showed resilience and determination with each of the activities.

“At each event the team gave their all and pushed themselves to the limit, we are extremely proud of their achievements.

“This was the first time that Hampshire and Isle of Wight have competed in this challenge and we will definitely be doing it again!”

“I want to thank Lee Parrotte who volunteered to attend with us and also to the team at South Wales FRS for hosting.”

Held at Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Cyncoed Campus, the games were designed to promote inclusion, discipline, resilience, and leadership among young people, while also strengthening partnerships between services.

Alongside competition, the event featured social elements, educational inputs, and engagement with the wider public and partner cadet organisations.

Also attending the event was Annabelle from our Basingstoke unit, who in February will be part of the team travelling to Norway with the Fire Angel’s Leadership Foundation.

We are looking forward to following Annabelle’s journey throughout her training and the trip itself.
