Storage unit blaze battled by firefighters

Firefighters have been tackling a fire involving a caravan storage unit on Church Road in Newtown.
We were first alerted at 10:15am, 24th February with crews from Fareham, Cosham, Droxford and Portchester first on the scene, supported by vehicles from Southsea, Bordon, Ringwood, Eastleigh and SHQ.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose reels and jets to tackle the flames.
Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke, and to avoid the area.
Relief crews from New Milton, St Mary’s, Andover, Grayshott, Emsworth, Basingstoke, Fleet and Beaulieu took over from the firefighters which were first to arrive on scene this morning.
One female casualty was treated for smoke inhalation and discharged at the scene.
The fire was contained with only a few hotspots remaining.
Firefighters have worked to remove a number of cylinders from the affected area.
We had water carriers in operation, filling up via what we believe to be a separate main to the one which supplies the local area.
We made Portsmouth Water aware of an issue with the water supply affecting nearby residents, which is thought to be unrelated to the ongoing incident and has now been rectified.
