Small portable heater fire in Swanwick

Firefighters attended a small fire at a home in Swanwick on Saturday afternoon (24/09/22).

Three pumps from St Mary’s, Hightown and Fareham arrived to find the fire was out on arrival.

The fire had originated from a portable electric heater connected to an extension cable and was extinguished using damp tea towels.

Crews conducted an inspection of the property and completed community safety activity in the surrounding vicinity.

The occupants were passed into the care of SCAS.

Group Manager Ben Allen said:

‘We recommend that everyone stays safe this winter when using portable heaters in their homes – always read the safety information provided and keep flammable items like clothes away to reduce fire risk.’
