Several casualties treated for minor injuries by HIWFRS following Southampton flat fire

HIWFRS were called to a fire on Ellwood Avenue, Southampton at 10.51 this morning.

Crews from Hightown, St Mary’s and Eastleigh fire stations found smoke issuing from a ground floor flat upon arrival.

All persons were soon accounted for, with HIWFRS firefighters performing Immediate Emergency Care to a total of seven occupants from the affected flat and neighbouring properties, suffering from light smoke inhalation. The casualties were handed over into the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.

The fire in the lounge was extinguished using two sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two jets and ventilation fans to clear the smoke.

The electricity company and Southampton City Council attended the scene due to the damage to the property.
