On-call crews called to unattended cooking fire at Isle of Wight hotel

On-call firefighters from Shanklin and Ventnor were alerted to a kitchen blaze at a hotel on Belgrave Road at around midnight.

The fire, which was caused by a cooker left unattended, was out on arrival, but crews were required to use ventilation fans to clear a large amount of smoke from the flat.

Two casualties were given oxygen before they were passed into the care of paramedics.

Further crews from Sandown, Ryde and Newport were stood down as they were no longer required.

Firefighters isolated the cooker and fitted smoke alarms before returning to station at around 1am.
