More than 35 firefighters tackle Southampton house fire
Around 35 firefighters have been tackling a house fire on Northam Road, Southampton.
Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Eastleigh and Hamble were first called at 8:21 this morning.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been using hose reel jets, the aerial ladder and ventilation fans to tackle the blaze which spread from the basement to the ground and first floors.
Police officers have put a cordon in place as local residents are advised to avoid the area.
Urban Search and Rescue advisors were called to assess the building and ascertain whether it was structurally safe.
The incident was scaled down with two crews remaining to maintain a watching brief on the property which suffered significant damage.
The electrical supply was isolated before the building was boarded up.
Crews conducted Safe and Well visits at neighbouring properties before returning to station following the stop message at 15:38.
