Working smoke alarm alerts neighbours to house fire in Andover

A working smoke alarm alerted passers-by to a house fire in Andover.

Crews from Andover, Stockbridge, Whitchurch and Basingstoke stations and from Dorset and Wiltshire FRS arrived to a well developed fire on the ground floor of the property after a call from passers-by reporting smoke coming from the detached building at 10:40.

Crews dealt with the fire and searched the property using breathing apparatus equipment and hose reels. Luckily, no one was inside.

After some investigation, it was believed that the cause was an electrical wall light in an under-stair cupboard, spreading to some nearby clothes and then to the ground floor.

The stop message was received at 11:55, and community safety messaging was shared in the immediate vicinity.
