Late night Itchen Abbas house fire tackled by firefighters
A fire which broke out in an Itchen Abbas property shortly before midnight was tackled by around 40 HIWFRS firefighters.
Additional fire engines were mobilised to the scene by Control Room operators as it was reported there were potentially people still inside.
Crews from Winchester, Eastleigh, Alresford, Sutton Scotney and Redbridge fire stations were called at 23:58 last night to the house on Avington Lane.
Upon arrival it was quickly established that everyone had safely evacuated and firefighters began to tackle the blaze.
The fire in the ground floor kitchen which spread into a first-floor bedroom, was extinguished using ten sets of breathing apparatus, four hose reel jets and one covering jet.
Ventilation fans were also in operation to clear smoke.
Firefighters left the scene at 2:21, with one crew returning later on in the morning to complete a reinspection and check for hotspots.
