Isle of Wight crews attend flat fire in Newport

Firefighters from Ventnor, Freshwater, Shanklin and East Cowes attended a flat fire on Robin Hood Street shortly after half 6 this morning after a neighbour called 999 to report seeing smoke and flames through the window.

Fortunately, the first-floor flat was empty and no persons were injured in the fire which involved bedding and was contained to the bedroom at the rear of the building.

Firefighters extinguished the fire with equipment including four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

The stop message was received at 07:37.
