Island firefighters tackled a bedroom blaze in a Ryde house yesterday afternoon
Crews from Ryde, Newport, Shanklin and Cowes were alerted to the two-storey property on the Esplanade shortly after five o’clock.
Smoke and flames were issuing from the building when they arrived on the scene.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose reel jets to tackle the fire in an attic bedroom.
Ventilation fans were used to clear smoke as firefighters removed roof tiles to check for possible fire spread.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault within a shower unit.
Crews delivered fire safety messaging before returning to station at around eight o’clock.
Firefighters returned later in the evening to conduct a reinspection of the scene.
