Hampshire firefighters cross the border to assist Wiltshire crews at Salisbury train derailment
Crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service last night following the declaration of a major incident involving a train derailment in Salisbury.
A number of HIWFRS officers were mobilised alongside firefighters from Fordingbridge, Stockbridge and Redbridge who were quickly on the scene at Fisherton Tunnel following the collision of two passenger trains.
Approximately 100 people were evacuated from the carriages and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment, lighting and absorbent pads.
A number of casualties were injured, including the driver of one of the trains, and taken to hospital, fortunately there were no fatalities.
The incident was handed over to police with HIWFRS crews returning to station following the stop message ta 22:40.
