In a separate incident, crews were called to Forest Front Nature Reserve in Hythe at 18:14.

Six fire engines and two Land Rovers were on scene, with crews working alongside rangers from Forestry England.

By 20:25 the fire was surrounded with crews damping down with further reinspections carried out by HIWFRS and Forestry Commission rangers.

Police were informed as it’s believed the fire may have been started deliberately.

  • Please take extra care if you are out enjoying our countryside this weekend.
  • The extreme temperatures mean the ground is hot and dry and fires can very easily spread out of control.
  • Don’t light barbecues, campfires or bonfires in the open
  • Get rid of cigarettes and rubbish, including glass bottles, responsibly.
