Gosport bungalow destroyed by fire

Crews from Gosport, Cosham, Southsea, Hightown and Portchester were called to a fire at a bungalow in Aspengrove, Gosport, at 16:43 on Tuesday (21 September).

A carer had reported seeing smoke coming from the mid-terrace property and the roof was fully engulfed when crews arrived.

All persons were soon accounted for and firefighters used breathing apparatus, jets and hose reel jets to put the fire out.

Crews investigated surrounding properties to stop the risk of fire spread and the stop message was received at 19:25.

Station Manager Justin Turner said: “The cause of the fire is most likely to have been discarded smoking materials. It’s believed to have been accidental but the property has been completely destroyed.

“The early crews did a great job in getting to the properties either side to make sure the fire didn’t spread.

“Thanks also to the police in helping us with people and traffic management.”

Fire safety information was given to local residents and the property was reinspected at 0800 today (Wednesday).
