Garden buildings destroyed in Cowes blaze

Crews from Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin were called to a fire affecting a number of outbuildings and sheds on Stephenson Road in Cowes.

Firefighters were first called shortly before 4pm and were supported by water carrier vehicles from Freshwater and Ventnor.

Two casualties were treated by ambulance paramedics whilst firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the fire using hose reel jets.

Police officers closed the road and nearby residents advised to close doors and windows due to the smoke in the area.

The fire is out with relief crews now in attendance to dampen down the scene.

Six garden buildings were confirmed to have been destroyed before firefighters undertook community safety activities in the adjacent homes.

The stop message came in at 20:01 with one fire engine remaining on the scene.
