Takeaway fire spreads to flat in Cosham

We were called to a fire on Portsmouth Road, Cosham at 15:20 this afternoon. Originating in the ventilation system in the kitchen of a takeaway shop, the fire spread into the flat above. Crews from Cosham, Fareham, Havant, Hightown, Horndean, Portchester and Southsea worked swiftly to surround the fire and prevent it from escalating further. Firefighters used breathing apparatus, aerial ladder platform vehicles, hose reel jets, and thermal imaging cameras as they worked to extinguish the blaze.

The roof of the flat was 100% damaged by the fire, with partial damage to the neighbouring flat’s roof. There was also smoke damage to the kitchen of the takeaway shop. Thankfully all people were accounted for, with no reported injuries.

Staff at Cosham railway station worked alongside firefighters to evacuate the station platforms due to the spread of smoke from the fire, which also prevented trains from safely stopping at Cosham.  The stop message was issued just before 9pm.
